Summary: I have used VRBO and the other guest sharing site many times without problems. However, the Divers & Bikers room is the first time I have encountered a room we could not stay in. We picked this room because there was no availability of places that we usually use due to the BTS concert in Tokyo. The room is located within a bar / bike / SCUBA shop. That in itself would not be a problem. The main issue was the smell in the room. Though it we could not identify it - it smelled of old cigarettes. We contacted Keita the owner. His response was that "he is sensitive to cigarette smoke and that he prohibits room guests and bar patrons from smoking." Be that as it may, the room smell caused my wife headaches within 5 minutes of entering the room. We advised Keita that we would not be able to stay the two days. He did not offer a refund or partial refund and apologized for not meeting our expectation. If no one indeed does smoke in the room or adjacent bar, then Keita needs to wash the sheets and bedding and air out the room if he wants to continue to use that room as a VRBO. The only other comment is that there is no means to lock the individual room. That is concerning since the bar is open at 1900 and there is risk of someone entering the room. I have saw other reviews indicated guests have not had issues staying at the Divers & Bikers room, but for us it was intolerable to the point that we sought another hotel and forfeit what we paid Keita.
