Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: As a birdwatcher, I spent time exploring the surrounding area and also visited Daisetsuzan. It's ideally located—about 25 minutes to the Daisetsuzan forest road and around one hour to the mid-mountain parking area. I stayed here for three days. The accommodation is located on the outskirts of town, along a river, within a commercial complex that includes a vegetarian restaurant called Jōjizai (澄石享自在). Note that the place is not listed on Google Maps under the name "Mori Ryokō," so it's best to use Jōjizai as a landmark. The lodging itself is a small three-story building, surrounded by a beautiful biotope. At night, the area comes alive with the calls of frogs, which some may find noisy. You may also spot beetles flying around. This place is more suited for those who appreciate and enjoy nature. There are no restaurants within walking distance, so it's recommended to have your dinner by 6 PM or plan to drive elsewhere. On weekends, many non-guests visit the area during the day and into the evening. However, there are three parking lots, so finding a space shouldn't be an issue. I had dinner at Jōjizai on my last night, and it was the best meal I had in Taiwan. I would definitely love to come back.

Negative: This is not limited to this location but can be observed throughout Taiwan—dogs are often allowed to roam freely. From the perspective of public hygiene standards like those in Japan, this would be unthinkable. Around this accommodation as well, there are several free-roaming dogs that may appear stray, and some people might find them intimidating. Although I personally like dogs, I believe that, especially for rabies prevention, measures such as keeping them on a leash would help make the place more welcoming to a wider range of guests. As a commercial facility, taking such steps would likely improve its overall accessibility and appeal.
